Body Butter vs. Body Lotion

Body Butter vs. Body Lotion

What is body butter?

Body butter is a blend of natural butter and oils, including shea butter, cocoa butter, mango butter, coconut oil and grapeseed oil. These ingredients are what makes body butter thicker and more concentrated than creams or lotions.

Additionally, body butters are best for dry, cracked or sensitive skin that needs extra moisture from emollients. Emollients are substances that help soothe and increase moisture levels in the skin.

To properly use and make the most of your body butter is to apply it to already damp skin from the shower or bath. This helps the skin stay moisturized because the butter and oils will seal in moisture from the water.

What is body lotion?

Body lotions have a higher water content than body butters, making them lightweight and easier to spread across the skin. Body lotions also go through more processing stages than body butter due to their manufacturing processes.

Furthermore, body lotions are less likely to clog pores due to their lightweight formulas. Be sure to opt for body lotions that do not contain comedogenic ingredients and fragrances, because they are more likely to cause irritations.

Is it safe to use both on my body & face?

Typically, it is not recommended to apply body butter or body lotions to your face. Both products are specifically meant for the body, but generally both will not cause irritations as long as there are no fragrances or irritating ingredients.

Although, any ingredient and product that is 100% vegan and cruelty free is safe to use anywhere and for any skin type! Thus, it is crucial to research diligently to ensure the products you are applying on your skin aligns with you, your skin and the environment around you.
